MacOS mainly due to the hardware that accompanies it has everything I like about Linux with near none of the downsides except it being an opaque walled garden as much as it can get, however personal opinions will likely differ here... At its core it is fully UNIX compliant as per POSIX making porting software made for the Linux kernel much more trivial than for Windows as by convention it supports all core Unix syscalls at the kernel facing level, shell scripting, and file management. The few upsides of Linux from a purely utilitarian point of view are either to tailor a the Linux kernel to a particular hardware platform for niche applications, or to choose between a few dozen task scheduler, window managers, basic utilities which not make up for the fact that MacOS is developed in tandem with its superiorly compatible hardware making such choices for performance optimization let alone acceptable stability moot except for aesthetic purposes. Most privacy concerns can be mitigated by encryption with a hardware key but never reach the Network+RAM hardened security Thinkpads made from the x230 era or earlier could on this front with a possible exception of M1 era MacBooks that can run Asahi. Although such workflows are getting more sophisticated with now entire codebases catering to the Thinkpad platform to squeeze performance out of this aging hardware, with time this will soon become unviable for workstation applications. In a decade when a Core 2 Duo is viewed like a 486 is now, Apple Silicon is the top candidate to replace the Thinkpad if the next generation of jailbreakers can reverse engineer it.
