Love is the law, love under will.

That phrase carries a lot of weight when you actually try to live by it. I have found that distinguishing between fleeting desires and true will is the hardest part of any practice. The former pulls you in every direction, while the latter feels quieter but more persistent. What practices have you found most useful for telling them apart?

How do you overcome the fear of death?

1 Name: Anonymous 2025-03-07 18:07
My grandfather died last week. When of his death that I didn't feel anything, just numb, until I saw his corpse at the funeral. I had just seen him a few months ago and he was perfectly fine but he just suddenly collapsed and died. My parents didn't want to do an autopsy on him so we don't even why he died but it has left me afraid that I could also just collapse just like that at any moment.

Do you have any ideas on how to mentally deal with the fear of the inevitability of death?

Are you saying that thoughts are imperceptible? If u r, thats not true, I just percieved myself thinking about making this post. Or r u saying that I would know of many imperceptible layers if I were capable of thought? That might be true, but I just want 2 hear some examples so I know we're on the same page. Or what?
18 Name: Anonymous 2025-03-18 17:40
i don't think thoughts themselves are perceivable. you perceive the content of the thought, but not the thought itself. similarly i don't think you perceive pain, pain is the perception of the thing that causes pain. but perhaps, because pain is measurable with something like an ekg it might be considered perceptible in that way. supposedly thoughts are also measurable with similar technology.
regardless i feel more like thoughts are the means to percieve the imperceptable. the bubbling out of the chaos a signal. that bubbling is an "imperceptable" layer, in that no one could every point to it and say "that's where the thought came from".
and for a lame answer "something something string theory" "something something dark matter" "quantum quantum quantum"

You can't change the fact you will die. You can only change your attitude to it. If you stress and worry then your remaining time will suck and you won't change your outcome. You're here, may as well enjoy yourself.

Accept that while everything is impermanent, death is not necessarily the absolute end. I think two things scare us about death 1. The fear of losing loved ones 2. The fear of ceasing to exist. In essence, these are the same fear, which is the fear of loss and this is rooted in desire and us wanting to own stuff. There's a lot of capitalist (and socialist) brainwashing in there too: it good to constantly amass stuff. Coming to terms with death might require embracing a different worldview.

The idea that afterlife, ghosts, fairies etc. don't exist and are just additional fluff layered onto a natural world (for better or worse) only makes sense if you buy into a certain brand of metaphysics, which isn't necessarily philosophically correct or the only model available, its just assumed to be true because society rams it down our throats.

The concept of sin is that mankind was corrupted by the fall from paradise meaning the sons of Adam are mortal; It is due to carrying this innate corruption being born into the world where good and evil are knowable, not guilt or complete depravity, that it is inevitable every member of mankind will fall into sin. Only Christ's descent into hades after His death on the cross where He lifted up fallen Adam and Himself was resurrected was mankind able to enter paradise once more by His grace.

Since God is "dead" (forgotten by the majority of people), divine grace cannot be actualized anywhere through people. Even Satan is a redeemable character because he had a role to play in God's game. "Jesus loves you" only means something when people live out that love. Because they don't there is no possibility for the Lord's grace to exist in the world and no possibility for love on Earth.
36 Name: Anonymous 2025-12-14 18:35
pretty sure love is a primordial aspect that jesus subsumed but if he is dead as you claim (ie the devotion of a single person is not enough to sustain a god - which is a different point which id probably disagree with but i digress) then love would have returned to being a divine aspect separate from the jesus god, and still accessible directly.

Does God need creation to be a god? If people stop believing in god, then god is truly alone. Even if only a handful of people believe, god remains a dead idea to the majority. Love is not accessible because people do not live it out anymore and a small minority cannot revive it. So we live in a loveless, faithless world. God is like a lonely creature trying to make contact with a world that ignores him. Because everyone ignores him, he isn't accessible. Since human love is just a mirror of god's divine love, normal humans are loveless to each other.

I'm not liking Christianity these days. I don't wanna make Christians feel bad though. Maybe I read too much Zizek and all the stuff he and Badiou praise Christianity for are exactly what I don't like.

Linguistically yes. Although I'd say that the distinction between God and creation isn't clear cut.

Can y'all recommend me some novels?
Preferably something comfy that isn't too hard.
Haven't read an actual book in years at this point, so I'd really like to stop being illiterate.

etymology of 8 in russian

1 Name: Anonymous 2024-04-30 01:29
https://russian.stackexchange.com/questions/6985/what-is-the-etymology-of-восемь-andдевять
excuse me but are these absolute clowns expecting me to believe that the reason "vosem'" is like that is because octo is 8 after latin/greek/pie? like they looked at the latin fucking letters and were like "well that says 'OSMO' so lets call it OSeM'" then later added the V sound to the begining for no decernable reason? no one was around to say in redditor tone "um actually it's pronounced 'OKTO' not 'OSMO'"
where's the guy who programmed this simulation? I want to speak to the manager.

your posts are not conducive of discussion, they are extremely niche statements of facts not open ended questions or topics for conversation. You could have made a post subject like "fun etymologies" and your op could have been "what are you guy's favourite weird etymologies? mine is x. Here are some resources for you if you're interested in this subject but don't know where to start: "
4 Name: Anonymous 2024-06-27 07:36
Bосемь is a predicate of Proto-Slavic *osmь, which itself predicates from Proto-Indo-European *oḱtṓw. They are right in the terms of Latin and Greek octo/ οκτώ and восемь having the same etymological roots.
5 Name: Anonymous 2025-04-23 15:45
I assumd the V came from a w like OS...>wos... (Like homo>uomo in Italian) and tjen velarised, and the the e was probably added in the sale manner it is added in the -ism suffix in English
6 Name: Anonymous 2026-03-26 17:13
oh no.

|Derived from 名 (na, “name”) + 前 (mae, front).[1][2][3] Compare the semantics of Latin praenomen.

|Appears as a term only in the last few centuries, becoming more widely used during the Meiji period.[1] Similarity to English name and other Indo-European words derived from *h₁nómn̥ is coincidental.

Looking for autodidacts

What you need to do is read some critical theory and realize that you’re not supposed to take the unpopular side of the debate, but refuse the terms of the debate altogether and make both sides hate you.
